Session 2 - Rainwater Harvesting and Water Reuse

Identifying technologies and procedures; Understanding Federal and New York rules and regulations.

  • Using natural irrigation
  • Planting that leads to energy saving

Greenroofs benefit the environment by: Insulating the roof and providing energy savings on heating and cooling. Doubling, sometimes tripling the life of the roof by protecting it from water, UV, and temperature extremes. Greenroofs absorb 80% of the water that lands on them reducing storm water runoff. Absorbing CO2 and releasing oxygen. Absorbing pollutants. Increasing biodiversity. By cooling roof tops, greenroofs help mitigate “heat island effect”. They beautify the roof top. A greenroof is not necessarily a roof garden. Many greenroofs are thin layers of low maintenance plants that serve as a living blanket.

Speaker is Richard Heller.
